the limbic system

The limbic system is deep inside the brain linking the brain stem and the cerebral hemispheres and appears to be primarily responsible for our emotional life. It includes the hippocampus (with key roles in memory) and the amygdala (with key roles in emotions).

The healthy limbic system also processes and transmits information from the olfactory nerves to the hypothalamus, helping to regulate eating and sexuality.
