sailing vessel 'Triptych'  finngulf 391

This is the rhum line from Montauk Point to Bermuda. The idea is to spend as little time as possible in the Gulf Stream as it's usually foul. Generally one plans to cross at it's narrowest point, and at right angles to the flow, bearing in mind that there is a strong current involved. Of course all this pre-supposes that the weather conditions will be suitable and co-operate. Unfortunately our new and untried weather forcaster was relying on us maintaining a particular hull speed and we were unexpectedly becalmed. With the old folding prop we weren't able to maintain the required speed and fell behind the good weather in the window.
